Are you ready to be a Councillor

Are you ready to make a difference in your community? Standing to be a councillor is an opportunity to represent local people, speak up on the issues that matter, and help shape the future of our area.

As part of our Target to Win campaign, there are wards we will be targeting where we believe there is a reasonable chance of success. Alongside these, we also have development wards, which may be promoted to target wards once the right resources are in place. Finding a prospective candidate is one important part of building those resources.

We also aim to have a name on the ballot for every seat. In some areas, this will be as a paper candidate, where someone stands in name only because we do not yet have the resources to fully campaign in that ward. Without campaigning it unlikely to win a seat, but we still feel it is important to have representation.

However, if standing for council is not right for you, there is still plenty you can do to help. Whether you can spare an hour a month or a full day of leafleting, we can find something useful for you to do. See [Campaign Volunteers] to find out how you can get involved./p>

All council nominations require a proposer and a seconder from within the local party. The Election Team under the Eletion Returning Officer (ERO) may carry out a brief vetting process before your nomination is put forward at an AGM or EGM, where all members will have the opportunity to vote.

If more than one person applies for the same role, prospective candidates may be asked a few questions in advance.
